The result would indicate whether the public really wants the Libeskind scheme or new Twin Towers. There never has been any poll comparing new Twins and the Libeskind scheme. Before we begin to build a new WTC, the public should at least have the chance to vote in such a poll. Meanwhile,a new opportunity for making our voices heard is already coming into being...the American Institute of Architecture's Center for Architecture on LaGuardia Place will exhibit the model of the Freedom Tower,and they want comments from visitors. I know the AIA chapter is run by the anti-Towers,less-is-more Rick Bell,but I wonder if we could dare them to exhibit Gardner's model alongside the Childs-Libeskind and see which people prefer. However,if the scales aren't uniform (and the FT model is not placed in context of the site) this might not have as good an effect as it ought to. Anyway,if you can get there,visit the exhibit and give them a pro-rebuilding comment that denigrates the FT's hundreds-of-feet-lower roof and other drawbacks! Obviously,those from outside the NY area can't chime in on that, but EVERYONE can send in their written DGEIS comments,please don't forget (or forget to include your request for a hard copy of the final GEIS!).Address and so forth are on the http://www.put.com/wtc/ page...zero in on the Restoration Alternative and its being better. Likewise,send your anti-Libeskind,pro-new-tall-Towers comments on the Amended General Project Plan. Downtown Express joined the NY Times and Newsday in publishing an article that covered the DGEIS public hearing and ignored the pro-Towers speakers who were there in significant numbers.I sent them a letter criticizing this,and the editor (josh@downtownexpress.com) quickly wrote back saying they would print it.More such emails to them would not go amiss,though...and perhaps say that their article on rejected memorial options overlooked the dramatic,Towers-centered Lawrence Shen plan. Deroy Murdock will be covering the Gardner-Belton-TTT "Plan of the People" in his syndicated column on Thursday,if you see it in print please tell whatever newspaper that you agree that new Towers are the way to go and the inadequate official plans have got to be stopped. Nicole Gelinas had a column in the NY Post today on an unrelated matter, I don't know when her next one will appear or what she's done based on the TTT press conference. As one of those who demonstrated at the PATH reopening November 23rd, I'd like to take exception to ECH's comment on the NYCS board that there was nobody doing so.
