Date: Thu, 1 Jul 2004 21:37:42 -0400 (EDT) From: Louis Epstein Subject: WTC Rebuilding #316:Less than Three Days to the Fourth! It's July first...and on July Fourth we have to put up the best presence we can to show that the city, nation, and free world are NOT behind the inadequate plans Governor George Pataki is intent on ramming down our throats. The site once again is on the Church Street sidewalk of the World Trade Center superblock between the two entrances to the N/R subway lines. Our permission from the Port Authority starts at 11 AM but we'll be there before that...we've learned that Governor Pataki's burial of a rock is to start at 10 AM and is scheduled to be over by the time we start,we do not want to miss any media though our speakers will start close to 11. The speakers' list is filling up,a final roster needs to be agreed between WTCRM and Team Twin Towers. BE THERE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. A Staten Island Advance story indicates that family-group activists are upset about not being invited to Pataki's event,we don't know if they will be making any protest, but WE are the ones with permission from the PA to be there and our agenda is advocating rebuilt Towers. We hope there will be no confrontations but we will get our message across as best we can. New York One has already responded to our press releases and it looks like they plan to cover us.We will otherwise be visible to those who are coming to cover the Pataki event and will let them all know that we need better plans than the officials want to give us. The Civic Alliance is now looking for public reactions to the plans and process,as usual the contact person is Petra Todorovich (petra@rpa.org).They plan to compile and publish responses and it would be a good idea if as many as possible of the comments they got had a restorationist agenda rather than the CA's urban-utopian less-is-more ethos! Over at the NYCitySkyline board (linked of course at the WTCRM resource page http://www.put.com/wtc/ under "Message Boards") Andreas has posted an interesting piece from felixsalmon.com relating to the "Freedom Tower" and how different it may be from the model under display at the AIA Center for Architecture. I mentioned the recent NY Times article saying the 1776-foot spire may be dropped entirely...the Felix Salmon article indicates it may at least be moved, and the roof design changed.(In the model the spire rises from the LOW end of the sloping roof). Rather importantly...the upper (1500-foot?) observation deck is expected to be OUTDOORS AND FAIR-WEATHER-ONLY.So it will NOT count as the tower's occupied human space limit, which would be hundreds of feet lower! Let's show the world how much we need a better new WTC than the officials want to give us.Be there on the Fourth with pictures of old towers,Shen towers,Gardner towers, and other tall new Towers, show off your freedom not to settle for "Freedom Tower"! Some posters will be available for people who don't bring their own, courtesy of Team Twin Towers;these will be returned to TTT. Shirts, stickers, and other giveaways will also be there. Anybody out there who wins tomorrow's $290 million lottery, I hope you'll contribute to the cause! See you on the 111th floor on 9-11-11! -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
