Subject: WTC Rebuilding #516:Resilience...is it just for Russians?

The Twin Towers Alliance "Sidewalks" contest is still running;
anyone with e-commerce experience might be useful in helping
at their website (a request received just too late for the last
list-email).

At Virginia Tech, there is in fact a current of thought saying
massacre site Norris Hall should "never again be used for classes"
and might be torn down.Who needs to donate thirty million dollars
to a college for a spot on campus if thirty bullets will have just
as much effect on its layout?...are murderers as worthy of influence
as philanthropists?

(It was just as wrong to take the place Judge Alfred P. Murrah
[1904-75] was honored and allow its use to be defined by the
hateful works of Timothy McVeigh).

Meanwhile,Moscow's cathedral torn down by Stalin and rebuilt on
its old footprint after the fall of Communism was just the site
of the funerals of Boris Yeltsin and Mstislav Rostropovich.
If Russians can put back what was destroyed or reclaim territory
defiled by the bloodthirsty and restore it to its former purpose...
why can't Americans?

Why are our "leaders" either applauding or indifferent to the plan
to leave holes showing off the power of Al Qaeda to redefine New York
and its skyline?

Remember that we are fighting against a HORRIBLE plan,
that disgraces our entire generation if not stopped.

In other things I've spotted...an odd irony:
Julia Vitullo-Martin,whose anti-Towers attitude was
displayed in writing I cited in
http://www.put.com/wtc/wtc-419 and
http://www.put.com/wtc/wtc-460 last year,
wrote a book review in Post recently that
spoke admiringly of the very bold spirit that
gave us early 20th century engineering marvels
that she has attacked when it comes to later
advances.

It seems it's "not so fast" on the proposal for a new
JP Morgan Chase tower on the Deutsche Bank site, they are
playing hardball when it comes to tax abatements...

As to what's planned for the 16 acres,
Peter Walukiewicz spotted this today before I did:

As Silverstein says 2.4 million square feet is big,
remember that that's 2 million LESS than a Twin Tower;
in no way is "Tower 3" a fitting replacement!
(And half its windows will stare straight into buildings
nearby,if it gets built).

If you want to be impressed...combine Towers 3 and 4 of
the Libescheme into something bigger than the Fraud'em Tower
and move it far enough west to STOP the reopening of Greenwich
Street while letting the eastern view look down Cortlandt Street
instead of wasting that view corridor on a non-weatherproof shopping
alley. And goose up the height of the FT to match it.

Meanwhile...more DNA evidence is helping identify WTC remains:

Also, the columnist who wrote this is no relation...
this tells of a terrorist whose mother survived the WTC attacks...

amazing that "9/11 families" include Taliban!
Most of the mega-memorialists are far less conscious of
the implications of their efforts to guarantee the
perpetuation of the influence of those who killed their
loved ones.

Meanwhile, the pedicab-regulation bill that Bloomberg vetoed,
prompting slavering praise for him in an op-ed column by an
opponent of the bill...has now been enacted with the veto
overridden.

Now Bloomberg's trying to influence the city building code:
http://www.nydailynews.com/2007/05/03/2007-05-03_nyc_building_code_gets_first_major_updat.html
And again the City Council must pass on what comes through.
We'll see how useful the proposals are and how far they go.
Obviously super-tall towers will be built best!

Let's keep our eyes on the p-rize in the skies.
(Errant hyphen inserted because some of you have spamblockers
that assume any letter mentioning what people win in contests
is junkmail).

See you on the 111th floor on 9-11-11!

The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again,
at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
