On July 1 (at 6 PM) there will be something that's not exactly a public hearing...there will be a public information meeting about the Deutsche Bank demolition at the 1 Liberty Plaza offices of the development corporation (20th floor). They would have to have a public hearing about future redevelopment but I don't know if they will take any public comments or questions. I'm also not sure how easy it is to get admitted, the family groups in the past have been issued badges. Still, anyone in the area then who's a pro-rebuilder might be useful! Also, yesterday's NY Post had a hard-hitting article by their State Editor Frederic Dicker about the WTC project's cost overruns: http://nypost.com/seven/06282008/news/regionalnews/massive_wtc_cost_overruns_look_grim_117568.htm As we've warned, there may be even LESS built than the current insufficient plans. The Calatrava transit station can't seem to stay on budget despite cost-cutting redesigns there and at the connected Fulton Street hub.If the Fraud'em Tower loses its spire and HD antenna, and the Church Street dwarfs are further diminished...how bad can we possibly look? Doing the right thing of course can not be done on the cheap. And we must be prepared to pay whatever it does cost. But after a process that excluded good designs for not making mandated mistakes who knows what officials will think of next. But the WTCRM Architectural Competition is what offers the guidelines for what they SHOULD do! The Twin Towers Alliance has lately been promoting the Gardner-Belton plan and I continue to regard design neutrality as critical to our credibility as the voice of popular demand rather than any particular dreamer's fan club. But we all need to speak where we agree...whatever comes out of Paterson's report we must denounce appeals to downsize and make appeals to upsize. A smaller number of larger buildings that place a smaller memorial in the proper perspective! -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
